Efteling - Gluten Free
Summer in The Netherlands means a trip to Efteling. Legend has it that Walt Disney visited Efteling and took some inspiration from there in building his theme parks. Efteling has its own kind of magic. Relative to most tourist attractions in The Netherlands, Efteling is putting effort into its customer service and child friendliness.
With regards to its gluten free customers, though, it has some room for improvement. I asked their customer service representatives what gluten free options are available. They stated that all staff in the restaurants are trained in handling food allergies including gluten. There food options, though, seem limited to french fries and one place serving gluten free pancakes.
People that I've spoken to with Coeliac have told me that Efteling's restaurants does not seem to fully understand the implications of gluten contamination for Coeliac sufferers. So, while one restaurant may serve gluten free pancakes, those pancakes may be contaminated with gluten if cooked on the same surface as a pancake containing gluten.
So, if you or a family member have Coeliac, it is best to bring your own food and steer clear of the restaurants. That said, Efteling does let you bring in your own food.
